Possible authors

I seem to have spent more time in the British Library reading rooms than anywhere else lately. The discovery of Paula Harris and Lorna Lewis has been entertaining, but both are more suited for the collector and social history enthusiast. I don't think they have quite the wider appeal needed to shortlist them for future titles. That said, anyone interested in novels about music (just sheer enjoyment of playing - no need for precocious talent) or working in hotels or factories should read both writers.

  1. Is Richmal Crompton a possible author? Specifically, her books for adults (other than Family Roundabout)? They're rather more cheerful than much of Streatfeild. Can lend...

  2. I will look again at Richmal Crompton. With the right book, she's always a possibility.

  3. Have you considered Rumer Godden as a potential author? She had a real empathy with teenagers and seems to be shamefully neglected now.

  4. @ Vintage Reading - I had (briefly) considered Rumer Godden as she's an author I do enjoy. I decided against her purely because her original publishers had reprinted quite a few of her works as recently as 2007.
